Governor Okpebholo expressed deep concern over the killings, disclosing that President Bola Tinubu was equally disturbed by the incident and committed to ensuring justice is served. He emphasized that the President is determined to maintain peace and security across the nation.

“This unfortunate event has prompted a broader reflection on the issues affecting our country, and it has become imperative to seek lasting solutions,” the governor said. “President Tinubu is personally invested in ensuring this matter is fully addressed, and as such, a joint committee between the federal and Edo state governments has been inaugurated to identify the root causes and propose sustainable resolutions.”

He added that the report submitted by Kano State would greatly assist the investigative process and assured the public that the committee’s work would be transparent and its findings made available.

“We are a peace-loving people in Edo. We value the contributions of other Nigerians living in our state, especially from Kano, with whom we share strong ties in commerce and industry,” he noted.

“The Governor of Kano State had earlier set up a verification committee to identify the deceased, their next of kin, and the survivors. We’ve completed our findings and are here to formally present the report,” Gwarzo stated.

He further emphasized the need for a transparent and just process, noting that the 16 victims hailed from five local government areas in Kano State.
