US Imports Over 2 Million Barrels Of Jet Fuel From Dangote Refinery

The United States imported more than two million barrels of aviation fuel from the Dangote Refinery in March, marking a significant achievement for the Nigerian facility. In a statement released on Tuesday, the refinery highlighted that this development demonstrates the “unparalleled quality” of its products and the international confidence placed in its operations.

According to ship-tracking data from Kpler, six vessels carrying approximately 1.7 million barrels of jet fuel from Dangote Refinery have already reached U.S. ports this month. This shipment underscores the refinery’s capacity, with its 650,000-barrel-per-day output, to potentially transform global fuel trade dynamics, positioning it as a new swing supplier in the Atlantic Basin.

The shipment to the U.S. follows the export of three cargoes, totaling around 130 million liters, of jet fuel from the Dangote Refinery to Saudi Arabia. The refinery has already demonstrated its ability to compete with European refiners in gasoline exports, and these recent jet fuel shipments to the U.S. could impact the economics of domestic fuel producers in the world’s largest fuel-consuming nation.

Dr. Muda Yusuf, an economist and CEO of the Centre for the Promotion of Private Enterprises, expressed that the export of jet fuel to the United States is a moment of pride for Nigeria. He emphasized that the Dangote Refinery’s success in meeting stringent international standards and earning the trust of global markets, especially the U.S., highlights the refinery’s quality and the growing recognition of Nigerian products on the world stage.
