Their invitation to the airline is part of an inquiry aimed at understanding its pricing methods and addressing consumer complaints.

Boladale Adeyinka, the Director of Surveillance and Investigation, made this announcement in Abuja during a meeting where Onyema, along with other team members, responded to the FCCPC’s invitation. Adeyinka remarked, “Thank you for attending our invitation in person. We have gained valuable insights into your operations. To reiterate, this is not an investigation; it is an inquiry aimed at better understanding the situation and addressing consumer feedback.”

She emphasized that the Commission’s role is to benefit both businesses and consumers, highlighting the importance of business stability and sustainability within their mandate. “We will assess the situation and intervene where necessary, not only for Air Peace customers but for all air travelers and consumers of aviation services,” she noted.

Adeyinka also commended Onyema for his commitment to the nation and his philanthropic efforts, encouraging him not to be discouraged in his humanitarian pursuits.

Earlier, Chairman Allen Onyema discussed the global nature of fare pricing in the aviation sector but expressed concerns that Nigeria’s fare structures do not align with operational costs, which often leads to airlines facing financial difficulties. He pointed out that the future for Nigerians lies in choosing between safe flying and the sustainability of airlines, which necessitates proper pricing based on global standards.

Onyema explained that the cost of flights globally typically ranges from $250 to $300 per hour, with some reaching as high as $540, suggesting that these figures represent fair pricing. However, he noted that Air Peace does not adhere to such pricing due to the low purchasing power of Nigerians.

He reiterated his commitment to aviation safety, stating, “For us at Air Peace, safety is a condition that is non-negotiable, rather than just a priority.” Despite the challenges, he emphasized that his patriotism and passion for the aviation industry have kept Air Peace operational, though he acknowledged that if operational costs—including numerous charges—were fully accounted for, flying would be beyond the reach of many Nigerians.
