Federal Government Vows To Ensure Inclusion And Equal Opportunities For PWDs

The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to removing barriers that hinder inclusion and equal opportunities for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs). In a statement marking the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, Yilwatda celebrated the resilience and achievements of over 30 million PWDs in Nigeria.

“As a nation, we honor the contributions of PWDs to various sectors, including business, sports, education, and technology. At the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, we are committed to breaking barriers and empowering PWDs to live independently and with dignity,” he stated.

Yilwatda highlighted the ministry’s targeted initiatives, such as social safety programs, financial inclusion measures, vocational training, and enhanced laws and policies that protect the rights of PWDs. These efforts, he said, are aimed at ensuring inclusivity becomes a reality, not just a promise.

This year’s theme, ‘Amplifying the Leadership of Persons with Disabilities for an Inclusive and Sustainable Future,’ underscores the invaluable skills and talents PWDs bring to society.

The minister also emphasized that embracing diversity and fostering inclusion are crucial to the nation’s collective strength. “Together, we can build a country where no one is left behind,” he concluded.
