Why Al-Mustapha May Be Next NSCDC Boss

Hamza Al Mustapha

Unless there is a last-minute alteration, the Federal Government is poised to designate Major Hamza Al-Mustapha (rtd) as the Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).

It has been reliably gathered by The Guardian that the selection of the former Chief Security Officer (CSO) to the late Head of State, Gen. Sani Abacha, aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to revamp the security framework.

Al-Mustapha, who sought the presidency under the Action Alliance (AA) party, criticized the security situation in the country during the tenure of former President Muhammadu Buhari.

While delivering a keynote address at a roundtable discussion on “Contemporary security challenges and their effects on the 2023 general election,” he cautioned that Nigeria was on the brink of a crisis due to the widespread circulation of arms and illicit drugs.

He emphasized that this trend posed a threat to the upcoming elections, urging Nigerians to probe whether the influx of arms was intended to bolster insurgency.

Al-Mustapha further highlighted that remnants of insurgency victims still suffer across the country.

He had said: “There are leadership deficit in Nigeria at all levels. The next leader must have shock absorber, because this country is sitting on a keg of gunpowder.”
