Despite Edo State being a transportation hub, the condition of major federal road networks connecting different parts of the country is a matter of concern.

Governor Obaseki mentioned the sorry state of the Sapele Road, which became impassable after heavy rainfall. He criticized the neglect of regions that contribute significantly to the country’s oil resources.

The Auchi-Ibillo Road was also in poor condition, affecting contractors’ access to their quarry site.

The state government’s requests for palliative work on these roads have been declined by the Federal Government, citing that they are already under contract with other parties.

Governor Obaseki expressed confusion over the Federal Government’s policy regarding these roads, noting that in the past, states could rehabilitate Federal roads and present the bills to the Federal Government for reimbursement.
