Why I Facilitated The Removal Of Maryam Shetty From Tinubu’s Ministerial List – Ganduje
The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje, has disclosed how he influenced the removal of Maryam Shettima, also known as Maryam Shetty, from President Bola Tinubu’s ministerial nomination list.. CONTINUE READING
Initially, Mr Tinubu had nominated Ms Shettima as a ministerial nominee from Kano State. However, the nomination was later withdrawn, and she was replaced with Mariya Mahmoud Bunkure.
Speaking in an interview on Freedom Radio, Mr Ganduje revealed that Ms Shettima’s name was added to the ministerial list without proper consultation.

He asserted that her nomination led to discontent among the citizens of Kano State, who questioned her suitability for the position.
“In the process of appointing ministers, the president has advisers from different states who provide recommendations. It is the prerogative of the president to appoint whoever he deems fit as minister. He also has the right to consult people from the state to identify suitable candidates,” Mr Ganduje explained.
He further expressed that they were not consulted on Ms Shettima’s nomination, and her name was unexpectedly announced on air. Although they initially accepted the president’s choice, concerns about her competency emerged from the public, particularly on social media.
“The reactions became intense, with people questioning her competency and suitability to represent Kano State. These concerns were not raised by Ganduje, but by the masses,” he added.
When the president sought Mr Ganduje’s opinion on the matter, he responded that he was not familiar with Ms Shettima and couldn’t vouch for her competency. The president then allowed for a replacement, insisting that it had to be a woman.
After consulting with stakeholders, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud Bunkure was selected as the new nominee. Mr Ganduje highlighted that the replacement was done in consideration of integrity, understanding of the job, and the individual’s role in government formation.
Mr Ganduje also expressed gratitude for Ms Shettima’s previous contributions and assured that she would be considered for another appointment in the future.
