Why Tinubu Gave Surveyor-General Adebomehin Two More Years In Office
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a two-year extension for the tenure of the Surveyor-General of the Federation, AbuduGaniyu Adebomehin.
According to Ireporter Online, the approval was disclosed in a statement released on Wednesday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
Onanuga explained that the President’s decision was influenced by Adebomehin’s ongoing reforms within the nation’s geospatial data and mapping systems. He stated that Tinubu is particularly eager to see the successful completion of the critical projects already initiated under Adebomehin’s leadership.
The statement further revealed that the extension, which will officially take effect from January 5, 2026, became necessary following the recent transfer of the Office of the Surveyor-General of the Federation (OSGOF) to the Presidency.
President Tinubu, through the directive, tasked Adebomehin with consolidating the ongoing reforms over the next two years. His mandate includes improving national land management and administration, coordinating highways and adjoining land infrastructure, and strengthening reclamation and erosion control programmes across the country.
Adebomehin was first appointed as the Surveyor-General of the Federation by former President Muhammadu Buhari on January 5, 2022.
