Will Nigerian Universities Shut Down Again? Varsity Workers Threaten Strike Over Unpaid SalariesThere are strong indications that Nigerian universities may soon face a total shutdown, as the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Other Associated Institutions (NASU) has issued a warning about the possible resumption of their suspended strike over unpaid salaries.

University workers are accusing the Federal Government of withholding their salaries for the past four months.

Prince Peters Adeyemi, NASU’s General Secretary, confirmed this during a press briefing on Wednesday, following the Union’s National Executive Council (NEC) meeting in Abuja. Although no specific strike date has been set, it is expected that the NEC will decide during ongoing discussions.

Meanwhile, the Bola Tinubu-led administration held a separate meeting with leaders of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) at the Presidential Villa. The discussions, which involved key government officials, focused on critical national issues, including fuel pricing.
