According to a statement by ASP Yazid Abubakar, the bandits had targeted the residence of Kabiru Umar Faruk of Sabon Garin, Damba, with an attempt to abduct him. However, the police pursued the bandits, leading to the abandonment of the kidnapped watchman, Malam Hassan Abdullahi, as the criminals fled.

The incident occurred on December 29, 2023, around 01:30 hrs when armed individuals suspected to be abductors invaded the house of Alhaji Kabiru Umar Faruku, a staff member of Zamfara College of Art and Science (ZACAS) in Sabon Garin Damba. They attacked and abducted the watchman, Malam Hassan Abdullahi, aged 52.

Upon receiving the information, the Divisional Police Officer of Damba Division promptly mobilized a team of detectives for a search-and-rescue operation.

The abductors were intercepted on the outskirts of Sabon Garin Damba, prompting them to fire at the victim and flee the scene.

The statement detailed that the victim was successfully rescued and taken to Yariman Bakura Specialist Hospital, where he is responding well to treatment.

ASP Abubakar emphasized that the State’s Commissioner of Police, Muhammad Shehu Dalijan, commended the prompt and collaborative efforts of the residents of Sabon Garin Damba, which played a crucial role in the successful rescue operation.

The police commissioner reiterated the commitment to ongoing efforts to confront and defeat bandits and other criminal elements in the state until normalcy is restored.
