2023 Elections: Another Lawmaker Arrested In Kano

Sani Madakin Gini, a lawmaker from the Dala Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, was arrested by police for unlawful possession of firearms.

This was confirmed by the Kano Command’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, who stated that the lawmaker is currently under investigation.

The arrest of Sani Madakin Gini, who was elected on the platform of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), has sparked various concerns and reactions.

Some residents have expressed shock at the incident, while others have called for a thorough investigation and prosecution of those found to be responsible.

Reacting to the arrest, the Kano State Police through the PPRO, said, “We can confirm that Honourable Sani Madakin Gini has been arrested for unlawful possession of firearms. He is currently in our custody and undergoing investigation.”

He went on to say that the police would not relent in their efforts to ensure that the law is followed and that everyone, regardless of status or position, is held accountable for their actions.

Citizens have called on authorities to ensure that justice is served and that anyone found guilty is brought to justice.

Alhassan Ado Doguwa, the House of Representatives Majority Leader, was also arrested and remanded in prison on a five-count charge of culpable homicide, criminal conspiracy, causing grievous hurt, mischief by fire, and inciting public disturbance.
