Why The Blame On Ministerial List Should Be On South East APC Leaders Not Tinubu – Osita Okechukwu
Osita Okechukwu, a prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Enugu State, has defended President Bola Tinubu against accusations of being responsible for the nomination of only five individuals from the South East as cabinet members…CONTINUE READING
Criticism had arisen following the release of Tinubu’s ministerial list, with some leaders from the South East alleging marginalization of the region.
While the South East received the expected five slots out of the total 48 nominees, other regions were granted extra slots.

Speaking to journalists in Enugu, Okechukwu, who is a founding member of the APC and also serves as the Director General of Voice of Nigeria (VON), asserted that the blame should be placed on South East APC leaders for this outcome.
Okechukwu stated, “I am not an apologist for President Tinubu. However, we need to conduct a pragmatic analysis. We ought to hold APC leaders from our zone accountable, as their lobby strategies were lacking in genuine efforts to advance the interests of the South East. One of them chairs the APC Governors Forum, a significant power bloc, and the other was already serving in the Senate.”
He further explained, “Frankly, I was concerned when I observed them obstructing our top choices. In a rather absurd manner, one of them was more focused on promoting himself, as if he was the sole qualified candidate from his state. Their approach seemed to be equivalent to chasing after small matters, while others were aiming for significant achievements.”
When confronted with the accusation that he was merely playing the blame game to gain favor, considering Tinubu’s likely lack of requirement for lobby strategies to ensure the region’s representation, Okechukwu reminded journalists that he was the sole individual who publicly appealed to Tinubu in December 2021 to “support an Igbo candidate for the race.” He recalled that his entourage instantly responded with the comment, “The kingmaker wants to be king.”
