Police Arrest Young Man For Defiling 11-Year-Old Girl

Reports from The Guardian indicate that Hammed, residing at 5 ABA Quarters, deliberately and unlawfully engaged in sexual intercourse with the young girl within his bathroom located on Agbowa Road, Aiyepe, in Ijebu.

According to the girl’s father, the suspect had been subjecting his daughter to sexual harassment for an extended period.

In an official statement, Superintendent of Police (SP) Omolola Odutola, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, confirmed that the incident was reported to the Odogbolu Division within the state. She stated that the victim has been taken to Odogbolu General Hospital for a medical examination, emotional therapy, and counseling.

Odutola pointed out that defilement is addressed under Section 218 of the Criminal Code Act in Nigeria, which defines it as a felony to have unlawful sexual intercourse with a girl under the age of 13 years, punishable by life imprisonment.

She emphasized that following the investigation, the suspect, who is above 18 years old and thus deemed to understand the law, will be charged based on the material evidence from forensic examination.

This incident occurred shortly after a recent surge in defilement cases, leading the Commissioner of Police in the state, Alamutu Abiodun, to urge parents to adopt authoritative and supportive parenting styles to instill obedience, discipline, and confidence in their children.
