BREAKING: Kano Governor Loses In Court (DETAILS)
The Court of Appeal, Abuja Division, has rejected an appeal made by the governor of Kano state, Abba Kabir Yusuf, seeking to invalidate the decision of the Kano governorship tribunal.
The presiding judge of the tribunal, Oluyemi Akintan Osadebay, had on July 13 granted the All Progressives Congress (APC) permission to summon a witness, Aminu Idris Harbau.
However, in an appeal numbered CA/KN/EP/GOV/KAN/05/2023, Yusuf argued that the Election Petition Tribunal judges made a legal mistake by granting the APC’s application and requested its annulment.

In its decision on Thursday, August 24, the Court of Appeal upheld the tribunal’s ruling, confirming that in Election Petitions, it is permissible to call subpoenaed witnesses to testify on matters relevant to the petition.
The Court characterized Yusuf’s appeal as “frivolous, vexatious, and deserving of dismissal.”
On Monday, August 21, the Kano election tribunal postponed its decision on a petition brought by the APC against Yusuf’s victory.
The APC, represented by its lead lawyer, Offiong Offiong, is challenging Yusuf’s victory in the governorship election held on March 18.
Furthermore, the APC asserts that Yusuf’s name should have been included in the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) membership registry thirty days before the election.
The APC seeks the tribunal’s affirmation of its petition and the granting of all the requested remedies.
Yusuf’s chief counsel, Adegboyega Awomolo, maintains that Yusuf is a legitimate member of the NNPP.
