The National Assembly Election Petition Tribunal, seated in Enugu State, issued a verdict on Friday, invalidating the election victory of Prof Sunday Nnamchi, the Labour Party’s candidate, for the House of Representatives position in Enugu East/Isi-Uzo Federal Constituency, Enugu State.

Prince Nnaji, a one-term federal legislator, contested the declaration of Prof Nnamchi as the winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), asserting that the respondent was not appropriately sponsored and eligible to run for the election under the Labour Party’s banner.

The tribunal, in a unanimous decision, concurred with the petitioner’s argument that the Labour Party candidate was not qualified to partake in the election.
