Jesus Alejandro Rivas-Figueroa, deemed “armed and dangerous,” is now the subject of intense scrutiny by NYPD officials following the chaotic incident that unfolded on Thursday night. Chief of Patrol John Chell briefed reporters, highlighting Rivas-Figueroa’s status as a person of interest in the shooting.

Having arrived in New York from Venezuela just months ago, Rivas-Figueroa had been residing at a temporary shelter at the Stratford Hotel on West 70th Street. However, his presence in the city has been marred by alleged criminal activities, with authorities linking him to an armed robbery in the Bronx and another shooting incident in Midtown.

Of grave concern to law enforcement is Rivas-Figueroa’s possession of what is believed to be a formidable .40-caliber handgun, amplifying the urgency of apprehending him. During his escape from the scene of the shooting, he brazenly fired shots at pursuing police officers, demonstrating a blatant disregard for public safety.

As authorities intensify their efforts to locate and apprehend the fugitive, the incident serves as a stark reminder of the challenges posed by armed criminal activity in bustling urban centers like Times Square.
