I Expected To Be Married Before 30 Due To The Number Of Suitors I Had – Ashmusy
Nigerian social media influencer and actress Amarachi Amusi, popularly known as Ashmusy, has opened up about the emotional and societal pressures she encountered after turning 30 without being married or having children.
Speaking during a recent appearance on BBC Africa’s podcast, The Conversation, the content creator reflected on her views about relationships, motherhood, and the decision to freeze her eggs as she navigates life on her own terms.
According to the media personality, she grew up believing that by the age of 30, she would already be married and raising a family. She explained that this expectation stemmed partly from the attention she received from numerous admirers while growing up, leading her to assume that settling down would happen naturally before reaching that milestone.
Ashmusy disclosed that becoming a mother has always ranked among her greatest aspirations, particularly during her younger years when she envisioned starting a family much earlier in life. However, reality unfolded differently from the picture she had imagined.
She noted that beyond her personal expectations, she also faced considerable pressure from family members and society. As the first daughter in her family, she said there was an assumption that she would marry and begin raising children before turning 30.
Despite having several suitors over the years, Ashmusy revealed that witnessing the collapse of many relationships made her more deliberate about choosing a life partner. She stressed that she now prioritises emotional stability and peace of mind over meeting societal timelines.
The influencer further explained that freezing her eggs was a personal decision aimed at giving her more flexibility regarding marriage and motherhood without feeling constrained by age-related expectations. She maintained that the choice does not reflect opposition to marriage but rather a desire to make the right decisions at the appropriate time.
Ashmusy stated that while marriage remains something she values, she believes it is more important to find the right partner than to rush into a union simply to satisfy societal demands.
