Tragic Loss: Journalist Suffers Heartbreak As Daughter, Grandson Perish In Jos Inferno

According to reports, the inferno not only claimed the lives of Olajide’s loved ones but also inflicted severe burns upon her and her husband as they valiantly attempted to rescue their children from the relentless flames.

While the precise cause of the fire remains under investigation, initial suspicions point to an electrical surge as the likely culprit.

Recalling the harrowing ordeal, Olajide recounted, “I was jolted awake close to midnight to find our home consumed by thick smoke. Desperate to reach my children, I frantically navigated through the inferno-ridden rooms, only to realize that the flames had already devoured our living space. My husband, risking his life, sought help from neighbors amidst the chaos. Together, we shattered windows in a desperate bid to reach our trapped children.”

Tragically, Olajide’s 17-year-old daughter and two-year-old grandson succumbed to the blaze, while her husband continues to fight for his life in a separate hospital ward.

In a display of solidarity, the Secretary of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Plateau State chapter, led fellow journalists in extending support to the grieving family. Urging compassionate assistance from individuals, governments, and corporations, she emphasized the dire need for moral, spiritual, and financial aid to aid the family in their journey toward recovery from this unfathomable tragedy.
