Crackdown In Benin City As Court Sentences 15 Cyber Fraudsters

Among the convicted fraudsters are Sagay Favour, Efemini Kelvin Mudiaga, Izzi Evans, Okim Ekene, Jakpa Godspower, and Lucky Alao SeyiEk. The rest include Adams Jarret, Mathew Ese, Oritsegbogwa Joseph, Joshua Lucky Ojabugbe, Emudiaga Akpojaro, Richard Promise, Aboh Daniel Bonfrey, Deniran Emmanuel Edafe, and Orode Ovie.

After pleading guilty to charges related to fraud, each defendant faced sentencing, with some receiving prison terms and fines. While the prosecution urged the court to impose appropriate penalties, the defendants’ counsel requested leniency, citing their remorsefulness.

Justice Efe Ikponmwonba and Justice Itsueli presided over the cases, issuing sentences ranging from two to three years imprisonment or specified fines. Additionally, the court ordered the forfeiture of monetary gains and assets obtained through illicit activities to the Federal Government.

Vehicles, bank account balances, electronic devices, and other assets associated with the crimes were seized, emphasizing the government’s commitment to combating cybercrime. The convicted individuals were also required to commit to good behavior in writing following their sentences.
