Lawan Hussaini Chediyar Yan Gurasa, the Majority Leader and sponsor of the Amendment Bill, announced that the repeal means there is currently no active Emir in any of the five Emirates: Kano, Bichi, Gaya, Rano, and Karaye.
“The bill has been sent to the governor for assent, and now there is no longer an active Emir in Kano or any of the other Emirates,” he stated. “The law now allows the Governor to call on the traditional kingmakers to choose a new king.”
