According to the Commission, seventeen political parties have successfully submitted their candidates’ nomination forms for the election, meeting the deadline of 6:00 pm on Monday, May 20, 2024, when the dedicated portal automatically closed.

In a statement signed by Sam Olumekun, National Commissioner & Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, INEC disclosed that the personal details of the gubernatorial candidates and their running mates will be published on Saturday, May 25, 2024. This announcement aligns with Section 29(3) of the Electoral Act 2022 and is listed as item 4 on the Timetable and Schedule of Activities for the election.

The Commission intends to publish these particulars by exhibiting copies of Form EC9, along with all academic credentials and other relevant documents submitted by each candidate, at its State Headquarters in Akure and the 18 Local Government offices across the State.

INEC encourages Nigerians to thoroughly scrutinize the documents provided. Any aspirant who participated in their party primaries and has reasonable grounds to suspect falsified information provided by a candidate or running mate can challenge the nomination in a Federal High Court, as outlined in Section 29(5) of the Electoral Act 2022.

The gubernatorial election in Ondo State is slated to take place on Saturday, November 16, 2024.
