Official! INEC Awards Certificate Of Return To Okpebholo As Edo’s New Governor!

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially handed over the certificate of return to Monday Okpebholo, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, following his victory in the Edo State governorship election. The ceremony took place at INEC’s headquarters in Abuja on Thursday, cementing Okpebholo’s position as the newly elected governor.

Okpebholo triumphed in the September 21 election with a total of 291,667 votes, defeating his closest competitor, Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who garnered 247,274 votes. Labour Party’s Olumide Akpata finished third with 22,763 votes.

The APC made significant strides in the election, securing victories in more than 10 of the 18 local government areas, while the PDP claimed the remaining councils with narrow margins.

Notably, the APC dominated two out of the three key senatorial districts in the state, signaling a major political shift in Edo.

Meanwhile, the PDP has rejected the election results. During a press briefing in Abuja on Monday, the party’s Acting National Chairman, Amb. Umar Damagum, voiced the PDP’s displeasure, claiming that Edo State voters had overwhelmingly chosen Dr. Asue Ighodalo and expected him to be announced as the governor-elect.
