Yusuf reinstated Sanusi shortly after signing the bill abolishing the five emirates created in 2019. According to reports from Ireporteronline, security agents, including police officers, hunters, and vigilantes, are stationed at the Emir’s palace.
The conflict traces back to March 2020 when former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje deposed Sanusi as Emir of Kano, citing “total disrespect to lawful instructions from the office of the governor.” On Thursday, state legislators passed the amended Kano State Emirate Council (Repeal) Bill 2024, leading to the removal of all emirs except one, who would oversee the entirety of Kano.
During a visit to the Emir’s palace, security details of the governor were observed, indicating a significant presence of political figures. Meanwhile, Sanusi returned to the state and took residence in another palace in Nassarawa LGA, heavily guarded by military personnel, operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS), and police officers.
The former Emir’s official car was sighted, with supporters gathering at the mini palace to pay homage, underscoring the deep-seated divisions and escalating tensions surrounding the power struggle in Kano.
