Head of Service (HoS), Bode Agoro, revealed this at the closing of the ministerial press briefing marking the first year of Governor Sanwo-Olu’s second term. Agoro also noted that the number of civil servants now includes local government staff, totaling 98,534.
The HoS announced that the governor has also increased the yearly subvention for the car refurbishment loan from N100 million to N1 billion.
“The governor has also approved a 100 percent upward review of staff housing loans to various categories of public servants to enable them to purchase or renovate existing land. This bill has been passed by the House of Assembly and is awaiting the final assent of Mr. Governor,” Agoro said.
The new approval specifies loan amounts as follows:
– N400,000 to N800,000 for Level 1-4 employees
– N600,000 to N1.2 million for Level 5-8 employees
– N800,000 to N1.6 million for Level 9-14 employees
– N1 million to N2 million for Level 15-17 employees
Mr. Agoro explained that the Staff Housing and Loans Board, established in 1976, was designed to meet the growing demand for government staff quarters. The board provides decent and affordable housing units to public servants and offers soft loans for purchasing land, building homes, renovating existing houses, and refurbishing personal vehicles.
Additionally, the governor has approved the allocation of two blocks each to the Staff Housing Board across all completed Housing Schemes by the Ministry of Housing. “This undoubtedly will add to the fleet of Government Staff Quarters and cater for more accommodation prospects to deserving public servants,” Agoro added.
