Shocking Confession: Governor Sani Reveals He’s Only Receiving Half His Salary

Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani has revealed that he has been receiving only half of his salary since assuming office on May 29, 2023. Sani shared this information in a video obtained by Daily Trust in Kaduna on Wednesday.

He explained that the state government is facing a monthly deduction of N4.7 billion from its federal allocation, a measure taken to address debts inherited from the previous administration.

In addition, Sani mentioned that the salaries and performance bonuses of his commissioners and the Deputy Governor have also been cut as part of his efforts to reduce governance costs and make sacrifices amid the state’s financial difficulties.

The governor expressed his commitment to managing resources effectively despite the challenges posed by the inherited debt. He stated, “In Kaduna, we are paying N4.7 billion in debt every month. You can verify our allocation. We began paying this debt in June 2023, and currently, we receive about N8 billion, whereas we should be getting around N12 billion, similar to what other northern states are receiving.”

Sani emphasized his administration’s focus on cost reduction, stating, “Since I became governor, I have ensured that we have not purchased a single vehicle for anyone, including myself, the Deputy Governor, or my commissioners. We have also lowered the performance bonuses and salaries of my commissioners and the Deputy Governor. Today, I am only receiving half of my salary because we must make sacrifices given the challenges we face.”

Addressing concerns about the state’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), he added, “Our IGR account is with Zenith Bank, and you can verify this. Each month, Zenith Bank deducts approximately N800 million at source due to the debt I inherited.”
