Governor Yusuf’s High-Stakes Gambit: Will He Restore Harmony In The Kano NNPPIn a bid to repair strained ties within the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in Kano, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has met with disgruntled National Assembly members of the party in Abuja. The governor shared details of the meeting on his Facebook page, stating that it was focused on addressing key concerns affecting both the state and the party.

According to reliable sources from Daily Post, Senator AbduRahman Kawu Sumaila, who represents Kano South, and Kabiru Alhassan Rirum, a former state Speaker and current member representing Rano Federal Constituency, were considering leaving the NNPP. Reports suggest that their grievances stem from the perceived overreach of the party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, and dissatisfaction with the recent downgrading of their Emirate Councils to Second Class Emirs.

Tensions escalated further as some NNPP members accused Senator Sumaila of not contributing to the party’s successes during the elections and subsequent legal battles. In his defense, Sumaila has taken to social media, reminding critics of his victory over Senator Kabiru Gaya in the Kano South Senatorial race and his case at the Supreme Court.

Meanwhile, Rirum has vocally opposed the downgrading of the Emir of Rano, maintaining that he still considers him a First Class Emir.
