Olumide Osaigbovo Akpata, top gubernatorial candidate for the Edo election, continues to win hearts with his vision for revolutionizing Edo State. In a viral clip, Akpata lays out his plans to tackle key issues in education, power, and agriculture.
At an event with Edolites, the former NBA president described how he transformed a rundown public school in the Central region. He recounted, “We see one video online, some children de school them lie down for floor dey copy note. If na so we go school, we for de here? When I see am that time, I say ehn, na the Edobest be this? Na I renovate the three classroom block, I nor be Esan o, na I renovate am, give them chairs for hundred students, small generator, water plant, give them toilet. I tell them say if I de government, I will give them maximum attention to education. I can stand shoulder to shoulder with any lawyer, any person in the world because of the education I receive for my country. That is why children after me must receive the same kind of education.”
On addressing power supply issues, Akpata shared, “Power is important. I have been a corporate lawyer for twenty-seven years, in the power sector for twenty-four years. I understand how the system works. I will bring power to Edo.”
Akpata also outlined his vision for making Edo the agriculture hub of Nigeria, stating, “In a state like Edo, once you can feed yourself, you achieve food security. You provide employment through agriculture, one of the greatest sources of employment. You improve the economy of farmers, stop rural-urban migration. Government must enter that space because it is about the people.”
