According to Ireporter Online, renowned disc jockey DJ Big N has dismissed widespread claims that Afrobeats is declining, insisting instead that the genre is undergoing a creativity challenge rather than facing extinction.

In a recent Instagram video, the music producer explained that Afrobeats began to lose its balance with the emergence of Amapiano, a South African sound he described as bringing a refreshing wave of energy, heavy drums, and immersive club experiences that naturally captured global attention.

DJ Big N emphasized that the rise of Amapiano did not undermine Afrobeats, stressing that music genres do not die simply because another becomes popular. Rather, he argued that Afrobeats has been affected by a growing trend of repetitive and predictable sounds, as many artists increasingly rely on similar rhythms, log drums, tempos, and viral TikTok-driven formulas.

He further noted that audiences are quick to notice when originality declines, adding that Afrobeats was originally built on innovation and creativity, citing pioneers such as 2Face, P-Square, Don Jazzy, and Wande Coal as examples of artists who shaped the sound through uniqueness rather than imitation.

According to him, the evolution of music is driven by artists who dare to sound different, insisting that those who push creative boundaries are the ones who advance the culture rather than follow trends. He maintained that Amapiano has merely highlighted an existing gap in creativity within Afrobeats rather than harming it.

DJ Big N concluded that Afrobeats will continue to dominate globally if artists focus on innovation in storytelling, performance, and production, stressing that the genre remains bigger than any passing musical trend.
