Sh*ck As Two ISWAP Commanders Surrender To Nigerian Army (Photos)

According to Ireporter Online, two high-ranking commanders of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) have surrendered to troops of the Nigerian Army following sustained military pressure in the North East theatre of operations.

The surrender was confirmed in a statement issued on Thursday by the Acting Media Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI, Lieutenant Colonel Haruna M. Sani. He disclosed that the terrorists, identified as Ismail Mohammed and Abu Umar, are currently in military custody undergoing profiling and debriefing procedures.

Preliminary military assessments indicate that both individuals held strategic positions within the ISWAP hierarchy. Mohammed was reportedly a close associate of a senior ISWAP leader, Baa Shuwa, with deep knowledge of the group’s command structure and operational activities within the Lake Chad axis. Umar, on the other hand, was described as a specialist in explosives, involved in the fabrication and maintenance of vehicle-borne improvised explosive devices as well as other combat-support systems used by the group.

The statement further revealed that another prominent terrorist figure, Mohammed Khalifa, a member of the ISWAP Shurah Council, was neutralised during joint operations conducted under Operation HADIN KAI.

Military authorities said the development underscores the growing pressure on terrorist networks in the region, noting that sustained offensive operations and coordinated strikes have continued to weaken their operational capabilities and force defections from within their ranks.

Lieutenant Colonel Sani reiterated the commitment of the Nigerian military to maintain relentless pressure on terrorist elements until all networks are dismantled and lasting peace is restored to affected communities.
