Obi, Kwankwaso Could Quit NDC Over Unmet Expectations – Bashir Ahmad
Former presidential aide Bashir Ahmad has suggested that the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, and his running mate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, could leave the party if their political expectations are not fulfilled.
According to Ireporter Online, Ahmad made the assertion in a post on his verified account, where he described the NDC as a platform primarily being used by the duo to pursue their ambitions for the 2027 general elections.
He argued that the long-term political vision of the party’s national leader, Seriake Dickson, may not remain compatible with the objectives of Obi and Kwankwaso. Ahmad maintained that if the pair fail to achieve their goals within the party, they are likely to seek another political platform ahead of the 2031 elections for similar reasons.
The former presidential aide further stated that Dickson appears to be focused on building a durable political structure rather than entering into a short-term electoral alliance. According to him, the former Bayelsa State governor is laying the foundation for a formidable political movement that could strengthen his chances of contesting the presidency in 2031.
Meanwhile, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso on Wednesday received a delegation from the Igbo Elders Consultative Forum at his residence in Abuja. In a post on his account, the former Kano State governor disclosed that the group expressed support for the proposed Peter Obi/Kwankwaso presidential ticket under the NDC ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Kwankwaso revealed that the delegation was led by Dr. S. N. Okeke, Chairman of the Ohanaeze Council of Elders for the 19 states and the Federal Capital Territory, alongside former Enugu State governor Okwesilieze Nwodo. He added that the elders commended the growing political partnership between him and Peter Obi, describing it as a positive development ahead of the next presidential election.
