PHOTOS: Akpata’s Billboards Steal The Show At PDP Protest In Edo

Earlier this week, what was intended to be a serious protest by the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Benin City turned into an unintended comedy as the towering billboards and posters of Olumide Akpata, of the Labour Party, dominated the scene.

PDP supporters had gathered to express their dissatisfaction over a recent court ruling that disrupted their gubernatorial candidate selection process. However, amidst their speeches and banners, it was hard to ignore the omnipresent presence of Akpata’s portraits, looming large in the background.

“It was supposed to be a serious moment for the PDP,” chuckled one bystander, “but with Akpata’s face plastered everywhere, it felt more like a surreal comedy show. It’s like he’s campaigning without even being here!”

As PDP candidates struggled to garner support amidst the distracting backdrop of Akpata’s larger-than-life presence, local residents couldn’t help but comment on the irony. “You can’t escape Akpata’s face these days,” remarked one voter. “It seems like wherever you go, he’s there with his billboards.”

In the midst of the laughter and bemusement, Asue Ighodalo, the PDP hopeful, could only watch as his campaign message struggled to compete with the unintentional promotion of his opponent. “It’s as if Akpata’s billboards are running their own campaign,” joked another resident, underscoring the humorous side of the situation.

With the gubernatorial race heating up and candidates jostling for attention, the scene at the protest underscored a broader truth: in politics, visibility can often eclipse the intended message, turning even a serious protest into a backdrop for unintended comedy.
