Protesters Loot Yet to Be Commissioned Nigeria Communication Commission (NCC) Industrial Park in Kano

Kano, Nigeria – Chaos erupted in Kano as protesters stormed the premises of the Nigeria Communication Commission (NCC) Industrial Park, which is yet to be officially commissioned. The unrest saw a mob ransacking the facility, taking chairs and other valuable items from the NCC satellite house.

Eyewitnesses reported seeing large groups of individuals forcefully entering the premises, bypassing security measures and engaging in what quickly turned into widespread looting. “It was like a stampede,” said Musa Abubakar, a local resident who witnessed the scene. “People were running in and out, carrying everything they could get their hands on. There were chairs, office equipment, and other valuable items being taken away.”

The protest, initially intended as a demonstration against perceived governmental negligence and economic hardships, rapidly descended into chaos. The NCC Industrial Park, still awaiting its official launch, became an unexpected target for the protesters. Many participants in the protest expressed their frustration with the government’s slow response to the economic crisis and lack of job opportunities, using the situation as an avenue to vent their anger.

A protester, who wished to remain anonymous, shared his perspective on the looting. “We are tired of promises. This building has been here, unused, while we suffer without jobs. If the government can’t use it to help us, then we will take what we need,” he said.

The Kano State Police Command responded swiftly, deploying officers to the scene to restore order. However, by the time law enforcement arrived, significant damage had already been done, and numerous items were missing from the facility. Police spokesperson Abdullahi Haruna confirmed the incident, stating, “We are currently investigating the situation. Several individuals have been apprehended, and we are working to recover the stolen items.”

The NCC has expressed deep concern over the incident. In a statement, the commission condemned the actions of the looters, highlighting the adverse effects on the region’s development. “This Industrial Park was designed to foster economic growth and provide employment opportunities for the people of Kano. Such acts of vandalism and theft undermine these efforts,” the statement read.

Community leaders have also voiced their disappointment, calling for calm and urging the public to respect public properties. “We understand the frustrations of our people, but violence and looting are not the solutions. We must work together to find constructive ways to address our challenges,” said Alhaji Sani Bello, a prominent community figure.

The incident at the NCC Industrial Park in Kano underscores the growing tension and dissatisfaction among Nigerians facing economic difficulties.
