Chaos In The Ranks: Nigerian Security Agencies Accused Of Keeping Secrets

During a three-day workshop aimed at enhancing inter-agency collaboration held on Tuesday, October 29, in Abuja, Gaidam emphasized the critical need for a unified approach among all security agencies. He pointed out that since taking office in August 2023, he has noted a troubling absence of effective information-sharing protocols, with agencies largely operating in isolation on intelligence matters.

“Given the escalating security challenges and threats we face, there is no better time than now to bolster inter-agency cooperation by sharing essential intelligence and classified information,” Gaidam remarked. He also proposed the establishment of a framework akin to the West African Police Information System (WAPIS) in Nigeria to streamline this process.

The workshop follows recent conflicts among security agencies, including a physical confrontation between personnel from the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in Osogbo, Osun State, last week. The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, represented by Deputy Inspector-General Dasuki Galadanchi, echoed Gaidam’s call for enhanced cooperation, asserting that coordinated intelligence-sharing is vital for swiftly identifying criminal trends and syndicates.
