President Bola Tinubu appointed Oluyede on Wednesday, assigning him temporary leadership of the army as the substantive COAS, Lt.-Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, takes medical leave abroad.

In his inaugural address, Oluyede expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for the responsibility during this crucial time for Nigeria. He highlighted his mission as Acting COAS: to allow Lt.-Gen. Lagbaja ample time for recovery before resuming his duties.

Oluyede also called for nationwide cooperation and support to tackle insecurity and restore peace and prosperity across Nigeria.

Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa, confirmed that Oluyede’s appointment aligns with the Armed Forces Act, Cap A-20, Laws of the Federation 2004, specifically under Sections 18 (1-4) concerning administration and command.
