igned the minimum wage bill into law, it became an official law for all workers in Nigeria.
He pointed out that while some states, like Borno, have already implemented the new wage, other states have yet to announce when they will begin payments. Wabba highlighted the worsening economic conditions, stressing that Nigerian workers are enduring extreme hardship.
The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has taken a firm stand against the governors, calling their actions a betrayal of workers. The NLC has instructed workers in non-compliant states to go on strike starting December 1, 2024, in protest of the delay. The NLC also announced plans to set up a committee to monitor the nationwide implementation of the new wage.
The NLC’s statement criticized the persistent delay and refusal by certain governors to implement the 2024 National Minimum Wage Act, describing it as a violation of both legal and moral obligations. The union vowed to continue fighting until the minimum wage is fully implemented across Nigeria.
