Church In Crisis: Archbishop And Buhari’s Ally Resigns Amid Explosive Child Abuse Scandal
The Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, has resigned following a damning report revealing a history of abuse by John Smyth, linked to the Church of England. In 2013, Welby was initially informed about Smyth’s actions and assumed law enforcement would handle the matter. However, Smyth never faced justice and died in South Africa in 2018. After careful consideration, Welby announced his decision to resign, acknowledging the church’s need for accountability and the importance of the recently published Makin report on Smyth’s abuse as “a necessary step toward a safer church.”

Ireporteronline reports that Justin Welby is a close friend of Nigeria’s former President Muhammadu Buhari, whom he frequently visited during Buhari’s presidency.
