Historic Visit: Indian Prime Minister Modi To Visit Nigeria After 17 Years
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Nigeria on Saturday, marking the first time in 17 years that an Indian prime minister will visit the country. The visit comes following…CONTINUE READING…

During his visit, Prime Minister Modi will engage in discussions aimed at reinforcing the strategic partnership between India and Nigeria, as well as exploring new opportunities for deeper bilateral cooperation. He is also expected to address the Indian community in Nigeria.
Indian High Commissioner to Nigeria, Shri G. Balasubramanian, emphasized the long-standing partnership between the two countries, which dates back to 2007, with growing collaboration in sectors such as energy, defense, and economics. Over 200 Indian companies have invested more than $27 billion in Nigeria across vital industries.
Prime Minister Modi has made Africa a key focus, with Nigeria as a primary partner in India’s West African engagement. This visit will be his first to the region, with Nigeria as his starting point.
In a recent statement, Periasamy Kumaran, the Special Secretary for Economic Relations at India’s Ministry of External Affairs, discussed India’s commitment to supporting the Global South, which accounts for 85% of the world’s population. He noted that India’s trade with Africa has reached $100 billion, with investments exceeding $75 billion, emphasizing India’s people-centered development partnerships.
