Ibrahim Idoko Hits Back ATanko: Labour Party’s Success Precedes Obidient Movement

In a statement issued on Wednesday, Idoko dismissed Tanko’s remarks, labeling him a political opportunist seeking to please his backers. He emphasized that the Labour Party had been achieving electoral victories and making strides for years, well before the Obidient Movement gained prominence.

Idoko’s statement read: “It’s laughable for Tanko, a former national chairman of a now-deregistered party, to make such claims. Tanko and his supporters clearly need a refresher on the Labour Party’s history and successes prior to the Obidient Movement’s rise.”

He continued, “The Labour Party has long been a force in Nigerian politics, winning elections across the country. For example, Alex Otti, the current Governor of Abia State, is not the first to be elected on the LP’s platform. Olusegun Mimiko, former Governor of Ondo State, served two terms, and we’ve had members elected to the National Assembly and various State Houses of Assembly.”

Idoko further pointed out that prominent politicians, such as Senator Ovie Omo-Agege from Delta State, Senator Joshua Dariye from Plateau State, and Hon. Samuel Godday from Benue State, all ran successfully on the Labour Party ticket.

“Tanko’s comments are merely a ploy to gain relevance and please his benefactors. If Tanko and his supporters choose to pursue other alternatives in 2027, that’s their prerogative. But with Barr. Julius Abure at the helm, the Labour Party will only continue to grow stronger, and we are confident that LP will emerge victorious in the 2027 elections,” Idoko concluded.
