Ayodeji, who was apprehended and presented by the Ondo State security group known as Amotekun in Akure, expressed his struggles with abandonment, which led him to steal in order to survive.

In a recent interview, the suspect confessed to being affiliated with the Eiye confraternity and admitted to stealing from a government general hospital in Akure due to his dire circumstances. He disclosed that he is a trained tailor but resorted to theft because he lacked the resources to establish his tailoring business amid poverty.

Alongside Ayodeji, a 16-year-old secondary school student (name withheld) was also paraded and confessed to raping a 24-year-old neighbor at knifepoint. He described the attack as unprovoked and expressed deep regret for his actions, stating, “I don’t know what came over me. I regret my actions.”

While presenting the suspects, Adetunji Adeleye, the state commander of Amotekun, reported that 29 individuals had been arrested, with an additional seven under interrogation for various offenses including rape, burglary, and attempted murder.

Adeleye noted that these arrests stemmed from enhanced patrols and intelligence operations throughout the state. He reassured residents of the Corps’ commitment to ensuring safety and combating criminal activities, especially during the festive season.

He revealed, “Among those arrested was a notorious member of a vehicle and motorcycle theft ring known for dismantling stolen vehicles and selling the parts as scrap out of state. We also apprehended a serial burglar who resumed criminal activities merely two weeks after being released from prison.”

To bolster security during the holiday period, Adeleye mentioned that 1,200 personnel have been deployed across the 18 local government areas in the state, along with regular patrols and show-of-force exercises.
