In its statement, the LND criticized the APC, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party (LP), New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), and other political entities for failing to meet the needs of the nation. The group highlighted that the lack of visionary leadership within the APC and PDP has contributed significantly to rising poverty and insecurity in Nigeria.

Dr. Umar Ardo, the LND’s Convener, stressed that Nigeria’s challenges—rampant poverty, insecurity, inequality, institutional decay, corruption, and economic stagnation—necessitate bold changes in governance.

“This urgent demand reflects the desires of countless Nigerians longing for a departure from the ineffective leadership of the PDP and APC, particularly among the Northern populace.”

To address these challenges, the LND aims to forge synergies with credible political figures from the South, thereby creating a unifying political platform committed to national rejuvenation.

“The prevailing governance methods of the APC and PDP betray a lack of patriotism and genuine sacrifice. Both parties, since their inception, have become enmeshed in self-serving leadership, particularly following the Obasanjo era.”

The LND denounced the existing parties for their tendency to impose leadership based on personal ambition rather than democratic principles. “This has led to leadership that favors loyalty over competence, resulting in governance that prioritizes patronage over the public good.”

The LND reiterated that Nigeria’s future hinges on a fundamental shift away from these failing paradigms, positioning the League of National Democrats as a transformative political force dedicated to restoring integrity and democratic values. Leadership selection within the LND will focus on merit, transparency, and competition, ensuring that only dedicated and capable leaders are entrusted with governance at every level.
