Cult Violence Escalates: 25 Arrested In Connection With Owo Tragedy

State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Wilfred Afolabi, stated that Monday was among the suspects recently arrested by the state command for criminal activities. The suspect was accused of burying the deceased in a shallow grave.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the commissioner explained, “On December 30th, the police received an anonymous call about Elela Monday residing in Ajowa Akoko, who allegedly killed his 14-year-old son, Tope Elela, and buried him in a shallow grave under a banana tree behind his house. During interrogation, the suspect claimed that the boy was frequently involved in criminal activities and bringing embarrassment, which led him and his wife to make the decision to end his life.”

Regarding the cult clash in Owo town last week, Afolabi revealed that 25 individuals have been arrested in connection with the incident in which four people were reportedly killed.

“We have arrested 25 individuals related to the recent crisis in Owo. Some of these suspects have directly confessed to being members of cult groups. One suspect, Olamide Ogunseyila, 28, admitted to being affiliated with a cult. The other suspects are currently undergoing thorough interrogation to determine their involvement, while the command is actively pursuing Steven Dada (alias ‘Ogodo’) and others linked to these criminal activities.”

The new police commissioner reiterated his dedication to ensuring the safety and security of the state’s residents, urging citizens to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the police and other security agencies.
