Seyi Tinubu Has The Right To Run For Governor – Arewa Yoruba Youths
The Association of Arewa Yoruba Youths (AAYY) has voiced its support for the rumored governorship ambition of Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Tinubu, affirming that he has the constitutional right to contest any elective position in Nigeria…READ MORE…
In a statement released by the group’s National Coordinator, Ambassador Lawal Hussein Taiye, the AAYY emphasized that, like every Nigerian citizen, Seyi Tinubu is legally eligible to seek public office.
“It is not a crime; he is constitutionally qualified to aspire for any elective position, just like any other Nigerian,” the statement read.
Hussein drew comparisons with prominent political families in other democracies, referencing the Bush family in the United States. He noted that George H.W. Bush served as the 41st U.S. President, while his son, George W. Bush, later became the 43rd President. Additionally, two of Bush’s sons governed Florida and Texas without controversy. He also cited Nigeria’s Saraki family, where Bukola Saraki served as Governor of Kwara State from 2003 to 2011, while his sister, Gbemisola Saraki, was a senator during the same period.
Focus on Competence, Not Background
Hussein stressed the need to support capable individuals in contributing to national development, regardless of their family ties.
“What truly matters is electing leaders of integrity and competence who can drive progress. Dwelling on trivial matters will only hinder Nigeria’s growth,” he stated.
He added that if Seyi Tinubu were to become governor of Lagos State, it could mark a transformative era for the state. “Every qualified Nigerian should be encouraged and supported because good governance benefits everyone,” he said.
The AAYY reiterated its commitment to a united and peaceful Nigeria, urging citizens to prioritize national progress over divisive sentiments.
“Nigeria is blessed with abundant human and natural resources. However, our fixation on division has prevented us from reaching our full potential. It’s time we focus on what truly matters to move forward as one nation,” the statement concluded.
