Pro-Natasha Demonstrators Rally in Kogi Central to Oppose Recall Effort
Hundreds of constituents from Kogi Central took to the streets in a show of support for Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, the senator representing the district, following attempts to initiate a recall process against her. Carrying banners with messages like “Natasha, Pride of Kogi Central” and “We Stand with Natasha,” the demonstrators expressed their support and mocked those backing her recall. They accused the recall proponents of accepting ₦10,000 and jollof rice in exchange for their stance, allegedly from Akpabio.
On Thursday, a federal high court in Lokoja issued an injunction preventing the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from acting on the recall petitions. However, the following day, the court vacated the order, reaffirming the right of constituents to recall their lawmakers.
The protests highlight the growing political tension in Kogi Central, with Akpoti-Uduaghan’s supporters decrying the recall attempt as politically motivated.
