Police Intensify Investigation Into The Abduction Of 5-Year-Old Girl In Lagos

Following reports by PUNCH Metro regarding the abduction of five-year-old Memunah Abdulrahman by an unidentified man in Lagos State’s Ejigbo area, her family has confirmed that the State Criminal Investigation Department has assumed charge of the case.

According to PUNCH Metro, the family had appealed for public assistance after the girl was reportedly abducted on March 9, 2025, while she and her sister were returning from Islamic school. The suspect allegedly approached the siblings at a local supermarket and lured them inside the store.

While pretending to purchase items for them, the suspect reportedly fled with Memunah, leaving her sister behind. After the incident, the family filed a report at the Ejigbo Divisional Police Headquarters. Officers reviewed CCTV footage, which captured the abduction and the suspect’s escape.

In response to the PUNCH Metro coverage, Benjamin Hundeyin, spokesperson for the state police command, confirmed that Commissioner of Police Owohunwa Jimoh has ordered the transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.

“The Commissioner of Police has directed the immediate transfer of this case to the SCID in Yaba, and he remains hopeful that there will be a significant breakthrough soon,” Hundeyin stated.

On Saturday, Ojagbemi Takuro, the community secretary speaking on behalf of the family, reported that detectives from the SCID were seen in the community the previous day conducting initial investigations.

“They visited the location of the abduction on Friday, as the store’s CCTV footage provided evidence of the suspect’s escape with the girl. The parents accompanied the detectives to the SCID after the Commissioner’s order, and we are grateful for the CP’s assistance,” Takuro remarked.

Before the intervention of the Commissioner of Police, Memunah’s father, Alimi, expressed that the family had exhausted their financial resources searching for their daughter and pleaded for public help.

“We are in dire need of assistance. We urge anyone who may recognize the suspect to come forward. Our daughter is only five years old, and we are desperate to bring her home,” he said.

In a related case, the police reported a similar abduction incident last Monday involving a landlord’s daughter and another individual in the Ijede community on March 26, 2025, around 9 p.m.
