Popular Nigerian comedian and skit creator, Brain Jotter, has mourned the death of veteran highlife musician Mike ‘Gentleman’ Ejeagha, known for the viral classic Gwo Gwo Gwo Ngwo.

Ejeagha reportedly passed away on Friday night due to complications from prostate cancer, as confirmed by his family.

In a heartfelt Instagram post on Saturday, Brain Jotter shared a nostalgic video of his 2024 visit to Ejeagha in Enugu, writing:

“39 years ago, he made magic (Gwo Gwo Gwo Ngwo). 39 years later, we danced to it again. Now, he rests, but his melody lives forever. Rest in peace, legend.”

The highlife hit, originally released in 1983, experienced a resurgence in 2024 when Brain Jotter featured it in a viral dance challenge. The trend captivated millions across platforms, earning over 29.1 million views and 30,000 comments on Instagram, and more than 19.6 million views on TikTok.

Following the overwhelming success of the challenge, Brain Jotter visited the ailing artist and presented him with a cash gift of ₦2 million, a gesture widely applauded at the time.

Ejeagha’s passing has triggered an outpouring of tributes from fans, artists, and public figures, many of whom credit him for preserving the Igbo storytelling tradition through music.
