Peter Obi Declares 2027 Presidential Bid, Pledges Single-Term Leadership

Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has officially announced his intention to run for president again in 2027, stating that he is ready to serve only one term if elected.

Obi made the announcement during a live conversation on X Spaces Sunday night, where he answered questions from supporters in Nigeria and the diaspora. A follow-up statement was released on Monday by his media aide, Ibrahim Umar.

He clarified that there would be no joint ticket with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, but expressed willingness to explore coalition talks — as long as they center on addressing Nigeria’s major challenges.

“If the coalition is not about solving insecurity, economic collapse, and hunger, then count me out,” Obi asserted. “Nigeria is in crisis and urgent action is needed.”

He also promised to stabilize the country within the first two years of his tenure and encouraged citizens to support his mission of rescuing Nigeria from its current woes.

On the Labour Party crisis, Obi said the party is working to secure recognition from INEC for the Nenadi Usman-led faction, in accordance with the Supreme Court’s directive.

He also reaffirmed his support for power rotation between North and South, noting he upheld this principle while serving as Anambra governor.

Obi criticized President Bola Tinubu’s reported stay in Saint Lucia, contrasting it with domestic crises in places like Benue and Borno. He emphasized the need for leaders to remain present and engaged at home.

Looking ahead to 2027, Obi pledged a non-violent and transparent approach, promising that votes would be protected and accurately counted. He unveiled three top priorities for his first 100 days:

1. National security

2. Revamping education

3. Reducing poverty

He also promised zero tolerance for political corruption or defection by elected officials.

“No party-switching under my leadership,” he declared. “My administration will prioritize integrity, cut the cost of governance, and deliver real change from day one.”

Obi closed with a call for responsible leadership, reminding Nigerians of his hands-on governance record in Anambra.

“If you want to serve, be ready to sacrifice your life for Nigerians. My record speaks for itself.”
