Peter Obi Breaks Silence: Declares Loyalty to Labour Party, Confirms 2027 Presidential Bid
Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, has confirmed that he remains a committed member of the party and will be contesting the presidency again in 2027. Speaking in Anambra State at the campaign launch of the Labour Party’s gubernatorial candidate George Moghalu, Obi directly addressed the growing speculation surrounding his political allegiance following his involvement in an opposition coalition that recently adopted the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as its platform for the upcoming elections.
Obi clarified that although he and other Labour Party lawmakers are part of the coalition aimed at challenging the ruling party in 2027, they are still officially in the Labour Party. He stressed that there should be no confusion regarding his political standing. “Tell anyone who asks that Peter Obi is still in Labour Party. The coalition is a separate strategic effort for 2027,” he told supporters.
With confidence, Obi reaffirmed his intention to re-enter the presidential race, saying that everyone has the right to aspire to the presidency but insisted no one does it better than he does. His remarks serve as both a reassurance to his base and a direct declaration of political intent.
At the same event, George Moghalu, the Labour Party’s candidate for the November 2025 Anambra governorship election, promised to deliver a leadership anchored on integrity, equity, and fear of God. He assured citizens that his government would implement a responsible tax system without resorting to violent revenue collection methods. He called for collective unity to build a more inclusive and purposeful Anambra.
The Anambra State Labour Party Chairman, Ugochukwu Emeh, emphasized that the gathering underscored the party’s grassroots strength and reaffirmed its commitment to justice, good governance, and people-first leadership as the state prepares for its next political chapter.
