Deputy Senate President, Senator Barau Jibrin, has firmly dismissed insinuations that supporters of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari now feel politically orphaned or abandoned within the All Progressives Congress (APC).

According to iReporter Online, the lawmaker reacted during an interview shortly after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu convened a special Federal Executive Council session in Abuja to honour the memory and service of the late Buhari. He described such narratives as unfounded, politically motivated, and nothing more than opposition propaganda.

“That’s not true. We have a great leader, President Bola Tinubu,” Barau said, insisting that Tinubu’s influence within the APC was not a recent phenomenon but one rooted in the very foundation of the party.

He emphasized that even during Buhari’s presidency, Tinubu remained a central figure and was never sidelined in the affairs of the party. “Even when God made Buhari president, he worked hand-in-hand with Tinubu,” he said.

Senator Jibrin, who hails from Kano State, highlighted the pivotal role Tinubu played in the historic merger of opposition parties that gave birth to the APC. He noted that the formation of the APC, which united the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP), Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), and the New PDP, was initiated by Tinubu’s strategic vision.

According to iReporter Online, the senator maintained that the leadership mantle within the APC remains intact under Tinubu, and dismissed talks of a vacuum following Buhari’s demise as baseless. “The current president was the one who arranged everything. So when people say there’s no leader, that’s just opposition talk, and it’s not true,” he said.

His comments come amid swirling discussions over the future direction of the APC ahead of the 2027 general elections, with questions being raised about the political alignment of Buhari’s loyalists following his passing. However, Senator Barau reassured party faithful and Nigerians that President Tinubu remains the rallying figure, just as he was before Buhari ascended to power.

As the political landscape begins to shape for the coming years, the statement from the Deputy Senate President stands as a bold affirmation of continuity and stability within the ruling party.
