Shockwave in Politics: Ogun PDP Endorses Tinubu for 2027 Presidency

In a surprising political development, the Ogun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has publicly declared its support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid in the 2027 general elections, despite the President being a member of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

According to sources who spoke with iReporter Online, the endorsement was made during the official campaign flag-off of Bolarinwa Oluwole, the PDP candidate contesting the Remo Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives. The event, which took place at the palace of the Akarigbo of Remo in Sagamu, drew notable party figures and traditional leaders.

Speaking at the event, PDP State Chairman Abayomi Tella emphasized that political affiliations must sometimes give way to regional loyalty. He noted that President Tinubu, being a son of the South-West, deserves unified regional support irrespective of party lines.

“We will support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Though he belongs to a different party, he is one of us,” Tella said. “Our support is for Tinubu and we will stand by him. The entire South-West will give him our votes. All we ask is for the elections to be free and fair.”

In alignment with the chairman’s position, Ladi Adebutu, the PDP’s gubernatorial candidate in the 2023 Ogun State elections, reiterated that the party holds no animosity towards President Tinubu’s leadership or his candidacy. He clarified that the party’s primary contention lies with what it considers ongoing poor governance in Ogun State.

“I met with the President in January, and I made it clear that we have no issue with his leadership. Our fight is with the governance style in Ogun State, which we believe must be corrected,” Adebutu stated.

This cross-party support marks a notable shift in political tone within the South-West region and adds an unexpected layer to Nigeria’s evolving 2027 election landscape.
