The Aba Atiba Chieftaincy family of Aramoko Ekiti has called on Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, the Ooni of Ife, and Ekiti State Governor Mr. Biodun Oyebanji to intervene in the ongoing dispute over the selection of a regent for the community following the passing of the Alara of Aramoko, Oba Olu Adeyemi.

According to iReporter Online, the family is urging these influential leaders to step in and help restore peace in Aramoko by ensuring that the proper customs are upheld in the selection process.

In a statement issued by Busuyi Ogunlana, on behalf of the Aba Atiba family, the group has condemned any attempts to appoint a female regent, as it contradicts the town’s long-standing traditions.

The family firmly believes that the regent should always come from the Aba Atiba lineage until a new king is crowned.

According to iReporter Online, Ogunlana has emphasized that this long-established practice has been followed for generations, and any deviation from it would be a direct affront to the town’s cultural heritage.

Ogunlana further clarified that the late Oba Adeyemi’s decision to appoint his daughter as regent could potentially create rifts within the community, warning that it could lead to serious divisions in Aramoko.

Reflecting on the town’s history, he mentioned that the regent must come from the Aba Atiba family, pointing to past instances such as when Chief Asasa was named regent during the vacancy following the death of Oba Arasowole.

He recalled the tradition firsthand, explaining that when Oba Oluwole Amele passed away, his own father was called upon to take up the regent’s role immediately, ensuring continuity in the town’s leadership.
